Bill Nye, CEO of Planetary Society in Pasadena, was awarded the Presidential Medal of Freedom by President Joe Biden on Saturday, January 4, 2025, at the White House.
Sporting his signature bow tie, Nye was joined with 18 other recipients — including former Secretary of State and First Lady Hillary Clinton, businessman and basketball player Earvin “Magic” Johnson, activist and actor Michael J. Fox, and World Central Kitchen founder, José Andrés.
Nye has served as the CEO of The Planetary Society, the world’s largest non-profit space organization, since 2010. His passion for science extends to advocating for climate policies on the national stage, including appearances at events and media campaigns aimed at addressing climate change.
Bill Nye has inspired and influenced generations of American students as “Bill Nye the Science Guy.” Nye’s legacy continues to inspire scientists and advocates for the planet.
