For two nights, Friday and Saturday, August 14–15, at 8:00 pm, one real historical figure, Beethoven, and one famous fictional one, Quasimodo, take the stage to solve one of theater’s greatest mysteries.
In Mickle Maher’s inventive comedy, The Hunchback Variations, the composer and bell-ringer join forces to investigate an impossible sound. What begins as an absurd panel discussion unfolds into an exploration of creativity, friendship, and the beautiful frustration of making art.
The West Coast premiere staged reading stars acclaimed Los Angeles actors Hugo Armstrong, an Ovation Award-winning stage and screen actor, and Andrew Hopper, an accomplished CalArts-trained performer known for his work across Los Angeles theater.
Directed by CalArts alum Rebecca Gessert in her Los Angeles directorial debut, The Hunchback Variations brings quick wit to one of the area’s newest live theater venues. Outside In Theatre, 5317 York Blvd., seeks to present underrepresented artists and stories through a variety of media, including ongoing improv, scripted, and livestreamed shows.
