The Armenian genocide of 1915 was remembered in a solemn and dignified ceremony at the Pasadena Armenian Genocide Memorial Monument in Memorial Park.

      By News Desk

On April 23, 2024, it was the 109th anniversary of the Armenian Genocide and this commemoration included students from both Armenian Academies in the Pasadena Unified School District: Blair Middle and High School and Webster Elementary School. Blair students walked from Blair to Memorial Park.

Speaking at the event was former Mayor of Montebello Jack Hadjinian who is the grandson of an Armenian genocide survivor. “We all know it happened because we lived with somebody who survived it…We’re here today because we want to remember the 1.5 million victims of the Armenian genocide.”

Webster Elementary staff in attendance were Webster Principal Kristin Forrest and Armenian Academy Bilingual Instructional Aide, Tatevik Yeghiazarian, Armenian Academy teacher, Tatevik Nasilyan, and Webster Bi-lingual Community Assistant Arpy Jahjah.

Blair School staff in attendance were Principal Amy McGuiness and teachers Mr. Norayr Daduryan, Madlen Manoukian and Eve Mekerdichian.

Vice President Jennifer Hall Lee from Pasadena Unified school District Board of Trustee was in attendance.
