      A preliminary 4.7 magnitude earthquake was downgraded to a magnitude of 4.4, 2 km SSE of Highland Park/South Pasadena.

        Pasadena City Hall

        The elevators at Pasadena City Hall have been shut down until further notice pending thorough inspection, according to the city’s spokesperson, Lisa Derderian. The historic Pasadena City Hall was completed in 1927. In July 2004, the building was vacated in order to allow for a complete overhaul of the structure, including a seismic retrofit. Staff moved back starting in April 2007 and City Hall was fully operational by July 2007.

        City Hall Update

        The Pasadena City Hall caused a water break leak to the upper part of the historic building. A staff was trapped inside an elevator and was rescued by Pasadena Fire Department. Reports of City Hall losing electricity.

        PUSD offices evacuated as a precaution

        All faculty, staff, and any students on PUSD campuses evacuated their sites. As a precaution, we conducted a search of the buildings, and an all clear has been declared. It’s been reported that there is no damage.

        Students are not in school this week; the school year begins on Monday, August 19, 2024.

        Pasadena City Hall is Closed

        Preliminary reports of minor water damage to Pasadena City Hall due to bursting water pipes. Residents are advised to avoid City Hall for the time being,

        No words on the condition to the Central Library located near City Hall.

        The shaking was felt across the Southland. Last Tuesday, August 8, 2024, a 5.2 magnitude earthquake struck near Bakersfield rattling the Southern California region.

        Helicopter surveying possible damage

        Pasadena Police helicopter is currently doing a routine surveillance in the surrounding areas for any possible critical infrastructure and areas of local concern.

        South Pasadena/Highland Park

        The earthquake occurred around 12.20 pm, just 2 miles southeast of South Pasadena/Highland Park, with a depth of 12.1 km, according to the US Geological Service.

        A big jolt

        Residents reported getting a few seconds of warning Monday afternoon before they felt the shaking.
