In recent years, the school start date has been pushed back to as early as mid-August, killing summer early and leaving less quality time for family and friends.

Families, on average, only spend eight hours a week together during the school year, due to busy schedules, according to an article on Dailymail.
That’s why summer is vital for precious family time such as dinner-table conversations and weekend adventures to museums and parks. It’s also a time for summer camps, family vacations, picnics, side hobbies, business start-ups, and/or summer jobs.
During the school year, time doesn’t allow for many opportunities to gain real-world experience and foster close bonds with loved ones. To cut summer short means to rob our children of valuable memories and life lessons.
Furthermore, the summer mentality ends long before school starts. Stores stock their shelves with back-to-school supplies as early as late July. But even though our minds have gone back to school weeks before, the summer heat still lingers. Mother Nature is not yet ready to turn into fall.
