As the long summer months stretch out ahead, many San Gabriel Valley residents are welcoming help in their fire prevention efforts.

The Arcadia Fire Department has officially launched its Defensible Space Assessment Program to help residents reduce wildfire risk and better protect their homes and neighborhoods.
Fire Prevention Specialists Angelina and Wendy are working directly with homeowners in the Very High Fire Hazard Severity Zone, providing tips, resources and guidance on creating and maintaining defensible space around their properties.
The program focuses on simple but important wildfire prevention measures, including clearing dry vegetation, trimming trees and maintaining a safe buffer zone around homes. These steps are considered essential during wildfire season and can help reduce the risk of fire spreading to residential areas.
In addition to vegetation management, homeowners will receive information about home hardening methods designed to improve a property’s resistance to wildfire. Recommended measures include installing attic vents, using tempered windows and incorporating noncombustible fencing materials.
Residents interested in learning more about the Defensible Space Assessment Program and wildfire preparedness can visit the City of Arcadia’s website.
Community members are also encouraged to sign up for the Wildfire Risk Outreach Interest Form online. The form allows residents to receive updates on future wildfire preparedness initiatives, community outreach opportunities and available resources.
