Angeles National Forest Urges Fire Safety as Heat Advisory and Wildfire Risk Increase

Forest officials are urging visitors to take extra precautions this week as hot, dry weather increases the risk of large wildfires across the region.

According to the National Weather Service, temperatures are expected to remain in the upper 80s to low 90s throughout the week. A Heat Advisory is in effect from 10:00 am Monday, July 7, through 8:00 pm Wednesday, July 9, for the Greater Pasadena area and the San Gabriel Valley.

Officials remind the public that fireworks are prohibited on all public lands and encourage anyone who witnesses illegal fireworks to report them to help prevent wildfires.

Campfires and barbecues are permitted only in designated campgrounds and day-use areas using Forest Service fire rings or stoves. Visitors are also urged never to leave a fire unattended and to avoid parking vehicles on dry grass, where hot exhaust systems can easily ignite vegetation.

With daytime highs forecast to reach about 91 degrees Monday, 90 Tuesday, 92 Wednesday and Thursday, 88 Friday, 87 Saturday, and 89 Sunday, forest visitors are encouraged to plan outdoor activities during the cooler parts of the day, drink plenty of water, and stay hydrated.
