The Angeles National Forest, which includes the San Gabriel Mountains National Monument, has partially reopened.

However, two areas will remain temporarily closed for public safety and natural recovery following the Eaton and Bridge fires. These closures affect approximately 17% of the forest.

The newly established Eaton Fire closure will remain in effect until December 31, 2025. The Bridge Fire closure, which was already active, will continue through December 31, 2026. These closures are necessary to ensure public safety and allow the landscape to recover from wildfire damage.

While these areas are closed, the following activities are strictly prohibited:

      • Entering or being on National Forest System lands within the Eaton Fire Closure Area.
      • Being on any National Forest System roads within the Eaton Fire Closure Area.
      • Hiking on any National Forest System trails within the Eaton Fire Closure Area.

These prohibitions apply regardless of whether individuals possess a valid California Campfire Permit. Violators may face fines of up to $5,000 for individuals or $10,000 for organizations, and may also face imprisonment for up to six months, or both.

The Forest Service emphasizes that these areas remain dangerous due to potential hazards such as rolling rocks, landslides, hidden hot spots, and the risk of mudslides or flash floods, which could occur with little warning. Public safety remains the top priority, and adherence to the closure is essential.

For more details, including maps and exceptions to the closures, visitors are encouraged to review this Forest Order.
