      COMMUNITY CORNER

      Dear Readers:
We have created this corner to highlight local organizations, businesses, and groups that we feel are an enhancement - and an asset- to our communities. We share their stories with our 150,000+ readers in the belief that vibrant and happy communities are a direct result of events and experiences shared by many in the neighborhoods.

Several years ago, owner Gayane Ajrutyunyan lost her brilliant son, Andy, in a motorcycle accident. She made a commitment to his widow and their children to start a business, using his name, in order to provide for them and their future.

Gayane’s commitment to freshness led to her deciding that everything in her bakery and grill would be made by her – and with love.  Her philly cheesesteak sandwich is built on a fresh roll – of course made by her – and is laden with tasty lean steak, provolone, bell peppers, mushrooms, and onion.  The standard version of this sandwich is made with cheddar-style cheese (mainly Cheez Whiz) on a crusty roll.  Gayane’s version is fresher and healthier, by far, and tastes delicious.  She also offers many other types of sandwiches that would satisfy any palate – chicken teriyaki, egg croissant, turkey with Swiss, and veggie. Her French fries are deliciously seasoned and perfectly fried.  Salads are available; however, the dressing is Gayane’s secret so you’ll need to enjoy it there.  Desserts abound – her eclairs are my favorites. They are made to perfection with just the right balance of pastry shell, custard, and chocolate.

Gayane also sells Mark Sevouni Urban Chocolatier treats, Armenian high-quality chocolates.  These  would make a lovely hostess gift – or just take them home for yourself! There are several selections of dried fruits, nuts, cookies, and pastries that are made in-house.

It is best to call ahead to order, as everything is done per order and not ahead – can’t get any fresher than that!  We hope Gayane succeeds in her endeavor to bring flavor and freshness to Altadena!
