This Earth Day, step into this urban oasis and get your hands dirty.

      By News Desk

Pasadena residents are invited to roll up their sleeves and reconnect with the natural world at Dig In, Pasadena!, a free Earth Day community event taking place Saturday, April 25, from 9:30 am to 12:30 pm at Throop Unitarian Universalist Church. Organizers describe the morning as an “urban oasis” offering three interactive experiences designed to spark creativity, curiosity, and care for the environment.

Building Healthy Soil: Nasturtium & Seed Bomb Making

Attendees can explore the many uses of nasturtiums, an edible and medicinal plant known for its vibrant presence in gardens, before crafting their own seed bombs. All materials are provided, and each seed bomb is intended as a small gesture of ecological hope that participants can scatter throughout their communities.

Art & Tea: A Moment of Garden Stillness

For those seeking a quieter way to honor Earth Day, the event offers a peaceful corner for drawing native plants while enjoying complimentary hot tea. Guests are welcome to chat or simply sit in silence as they sketch, creating space for reflection amid the bustle of daily life.

Mini Repair Café: Sharpen, Fix & Swap

Garden tools in need of attention can be brought to the on‑site repair café, where volunteer fixers will sharpen and restore them at no cost. A swap table will also be available, featuring tools, succulents, and drought‑tolerant plants. Community members are encouraged to take what they need and contribute what they can.

Organizers emphasize that everything is free and open to all, encouraging residents to bring friends, tools, and a sense of curiosity. The morning aims to celebrate Earth Day through creativity, sustainability, and shared community care — all rooted in the garden.
