Carla Valentine will present her one-woman historical presentation of Biddy Mason (1818-1891) that she developed with the Pasadena Museum of History.
Jack Landrón will share vignettes of his tremendously varied life experiences and songs in a style that is beautifully his own.
Ms. Valentine is an Afro Latina of Honduran descent from New York. She began her artistic training at HB Studios, New Conservatory Theatre and NYU’s Creative Arts Team. She has performed on various New York stages including Henry St. Settlement, Intar-53, PS 122 and the Nuyorican Poet’s Cafe. Since moving to L.A., Carla has made several National Commercials and appeared on “Gaslit” and “The Politician.” Her film credits include “Lady Bird”, “Huella”, “Moxie”, “Stalker”, “Stronger Than Pretty”, “Dust”, “Lead” and The Painting.”
Jack Landrón
Mr. Landrón is Afro-Puerto Rican and was born Juán Cándido Washington y Landrón on June 2, 1938, in Puerto Rico. He grew up in the Boston, Massachusetts area and studied at Emerson College as a Theater Arts major. Jack’s career has been tremendously varied; he has performed with Lotte Lenya and Martin Sheen as well as Pete Seeger and Joan Baez. While traveling to Mississippi during the Freedom Summer of 1964 to register voters, he worked as Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.’s personal assistant.

Their support allows Amapola the opportunity to share stories that reflect the cultural heritage and history of the Southwest, with a particular emphasis on Pasadena and the San Gabriel Valley and of those who identify as having roots in the Americas, the Caribbean, and the Philippines.
