Pepper Drive is gearing up once again for one of its most cherished traditions, the Annual Pepper Drive Parade, where a short two-block stroll turns into a jubilant celebration of community, creativity, and red-white-and-blue flair.

With no official committee, board, or formal planning meetings, this homespun event has somehow marched on for nearly 50 years. And that’s exactly how the neighbors like it.
“There’s no telling what you’ll see,” one longtime resident shared. “That’s part of the magic.”
Starting promptly at 10:00 am on Friday, July 4, the parade kicks off from the Glen Canyon intersection and makes its way down to 1748 Pepper Drive, just near New York Drive. Early risers can expect impromptu gatherings already underway by then, with neighbors sharing food, drinks, and good cheer as the procession flows past.
From kids on bikes, scooters, and skates to dogs in full costume, elaborately decorated wagons, and the occasional ATV or horse, the parade is a joyful free-for-all. There’s no registration, no lineup, and no limits on imagination.
Everything and everyone gets the patriotic treatment: dogs, baby strollers, helmets, houses, and even trees are decked out in red, white, and blue. Residents are encouraged to decorate whatever (and whoever) they please and to join in however they’d like.
After the parade ends, a neighborhood gathering at the bottom of the hill offers more chances to mingle, enjoy refreshments, and swap stories. Those who’d like to bring food or drink are more than welcome to contribute.
To ensure a safe route for the kids and other participants, vehicle access to Pepper Drive will be blocked off by 9:30 am at Glen Canyon, Berendo, and New York Drive. Neighbors are also asked to move parked cars off the street in advance.
“As survivors and as neighbors, we have much to celebrate this year,” organizers wrote in a message to the community. “We look forward to seeing everyone on the 4th!”
So whether you’re walking, riding, rolling, or just spectating, grab your stars and stripes and head to Pepper Drive this Independence Day, it may be short on distance, but it’s full of heart.
