      This year’s theme is “Power.”

      By News Desk

Every June marks LGBTQ+ Pride month nationwide, and cities everywhere celebrate to mark the struggle, achievements, and history of the LGBTQ+ community.

This June Altadena will join those efforts as they host the 1st Annual Altadena Pride Walkabout. The day will include a leisurely “power” walk through Central Altadena with multiple events along the way. There will be a Power in Visibility event as the crowd stops in Mariposa junction to support local businesses and wave pride flags at traffic along Lake Ave. Next is the Higher Power event at St. Mark’s Episcopal church to explore the open doors available to the LGBTQ+ family in Altadena’s rich local spiritual community. After that the participants will have a “power” lunch at the Family Power Picnic in Triangle Park.  The day concludes at the Altadena Community Center with the Embrace Your Power event that includes a multi-media art gallery, guest speakers, performance area, resource tables, regional youth LGBTQ+ Summit, and a classic car show.

The event is the brainchild of Altadena Town Council Member Nic Arnzen. He was eager to see something done locally to celebrate and support the amazing Altadena LGBTQ+ community.  He is joined by a team of local volunteers in putting the event together. The event is also being generously supported and hosted by the Altadena Libraries, Altadena Senior Center, Altadena Sheriff’s Dept., Altadena Rotary Club, St. Mark’s Episcopal Church, L.A. County Department of Parks and Recreation, Altadena Heritage Society and many others.
