Ever wondered what Saturn’s rings look like through a telescope—or how far away a nebula really is? Step into the cosmos at Altadena Stargazing Night, a free, family-friendly event open to the public on Thursday, May 1, in East Pasadena.

      By News Desk

Join professional astronomers for an unforgettable evening of celestial discovery. Whether you’re a space enthusiast or just curious, this is a perfect chance to explore the night sky like never before.

      What You’ll See

      • Close-up views of Jupiter, Mars, the Moon, and deep-sky objects like galaxies, star clusters, and nebulae
      • High-powered telescopes and guidance from experts with Caltech Astro, Carnegie Observatories, Mt. Wilson Observatory, and the Los Angeles Astronomical Society
      • Free NASA giveaways, including stunning Hubble Space Telescope imagery
      • A relaxed, drop-in format—come any time between 8:00 and 10:00 pm.

      Location & Details

      • Gwinn Park, East Pasadena (near Orange Grove Blvd & Victory Park)
      • Welcome Area located in the southeast corner of the park
      • Street parking available in surrounding neighborhood
      • No reservations required

Help protect night vision by avoiding bright white flashlights—ambient red lighting will be available.

      Safety & Weather Notes

      • The event site is outside the Eaton Fire evacuation and burn scar zone and considered safe for visitors.
      • Weather-dependent: if skies are too cloudy, the event will be postponed. Check the forecast or the official website for updates.
      • Altadena Stargazing Night is staffed and co-sponsored by astronomers from Caltech Astro, Carnegie Observatories, Mt. Wilson Observatory, and the Los Angeles Astronomical Society.

      Bring your curiosity—no telescope needed!

      • Just show up and look up.
