The inaugural Altadena Forever Run will take over the streets of Altadena on Sunday, January 4, 2026, from 6:00 am to 12:00 pm, causing significant traffic disruptions.

      By Rena Kurlander

The event, which includes a 10K, 5K, and a 1K family walk, honors survivors of the Eaton Fire and symbolizes the community’s resilience one year after the devastating blaze.

Hosted by the Altadena Sheriff’s Station, the event will begin at 8:00 am at Mariposa Junction, located at 849 E. Mariposa St. Nearly 2,000 runners are expected to participate in this special run, which is part of the countywide LASAA Mug Run series, an annual partnership between LASAA and sheriff’s stations across Los Angeles County.

      Road Closures and Traffic Delays

Residents and commuters in Altadena should plan ahead, as several major roads will be impacted by the race course. Significant closures will affect both north/south and east/west streets. Here’s a breakdown of the closures:

      – Major North/South Streets Affected (Expect Delays, Alternative Routes Recommended)

      • Fair Oaks Avenue (from Ventura Street to Altadena Drive)
      • Lake Avenue (from Mendocino Street to Altadena Drive)

      – Major East/West Streets Completely Closed (No Crossing During the Run)

      • Mariposa Street (from Ganesha Avenue to Glen Avenue)
      • Mendocino Street (from Allen Avenue to El Molino Avenue)
      • Altadena Drive (from Lake Avenue to Allen Avenue)
      • Ventura Street (from Fair Oaks Avenue to Glen Avenue)

      – Minor Street Closures

      • Glen Avenue (from Ventura Street to Mariposa Street)
      • Glenrose Avenue (from Ventura Street to Mariposa Street)
      • Calaveras Street (from Glen Avenue to La Fiesta Avenue)
      • Morslay Road (from Altadena Drive to Mendocino Street)
      • Ganesha Avenue (from Altadena Drive to Mariposa Street)
      • El Molino Street (from Mendocino Street to Fontanet Way)
      • Catherine Road (from Mariposa Street to Deodara Drive)
      • Deodara Drive (from Catherine Road to El Molino Avenue)
      • Harriet Street (from Glen Avenue to Glenrose Avenue)

Important Parking Instructions for Affected Residents

Residents living on streets between Altadena Drive and Mendocino Street, and between Lake Avenue and Allen Avenue, should move their vehicles before 6:00 am on Sunday, January 4. To avoid being trapped by road closures, vehicles should be parked either south of Mendocino Street or north of Altadena Drive. If you need to leave during the closures, please use alternative streets.

The Altadena Forever Run: A Tribute to Fire Survivors

The Altadena Forever Run, which begins at 8:00 am, will take participants directly through the burn scar left by the 2025 Altadena Eaton Fire. Mile markers along the route will highlight survivor stories, honoring the lives and resilience of those affected by the fire. In addition to local residents, first responders, families, and special guests—including Supervisor Kathryn Barger, will join in supporting the survivors as they run.

With traffic disruptions expected, event organizers recommend that local residents plan alternative routes and allow extra travel time if they need to be on the road during the event.
