For the first time since the devastating Eaton Fire, the founders of Experience Fable, Mia White and Joey Chavez, opened their Altadena property on Friday, Sept. 24, to welcome back neighbors, friends, and fellow fire survivors.

The intimate gathering marked a powerful moment of resilience and renewal for the family-run mobile petting zoo and the community that rallied around it.
Earlier this year, the Eaton Fire destroyed more than 9,000 structures across the region, including the family’s home and micro-farm. Though the flames consumed their barns and living space, White and Chavez managed to save all 60 of their rescued animals, including goats, sheep, ducks, chickens, rabbits, and more.
Now, thanks to a $10,000 Wildfire Relief Grant from LISC LA and the Wells Fargo Foundation, the family has rebuilt secure temporary shelters and brought the animals safely home. The grant was part of a $1.5 million program supporting 150 small businesses across Los Angeles County recovering from the January wildfires.
Friday’s gathering was both a homecoming and a thank-you; a chance for the community to reconnect with the animals and celebrate what’s been rebuilt.
“Our animals have always been about bringing comfort and connection,” said co-founder Mia White. “After everything we lost, to see them back here, and to share that joy again with our neighbors, means everything.”
Experience Fable continues to operate as a mobile petting zoo, offering therapeutic and educational farm experiences to children across Southern California. The family’s mission remains unchanged: to create moments of joy and healing through animals, proving that even after great loss, hope can return home.
