The Genealogy Class at the Alkebu-lan Cultural Center announced a special Juneteenth Celebration.

      By News Desk

The event will honor community trailblazers with a discussion and luncheon on Tuesday, June 18, 2024, from 1:00 pm to 3:00 pm at the Alkebu-lan Cultural Center, located at 1435 N. Raymond Avenue, Pasadena, CA 91103.

Hear inspiring community stories about notable Pasadena figures, including Marcie “Bootsie” Ambrose, Michael Mims, Gloria Wallace, Gary Moody, and Lisa Adkins Clark. The event will also mark the release of the Genealogy class’s book, Because of Them, I AM.

      About the Book

Because of Them, I AM is a profound exploration of local histories, capturing the narratives of individuals who have significantly contributed to the community. Compiled by the dedicated members of the Alkebu-lan Genealogy Class, this book serves as a testament to the resilience, achievements, and legacies of community trailblazers. Attendees will have the opportunity to purchase the book and engage with its authors, gaining deeper insights into the rich tapestry of local heritage and the stories that shaped it.

      Special Guests

The Cultural Center welcomes Suzanne Madison, a Pasadena-based consultant with Allegra Consulting and project manager for the SR 710 Reconnecting Communities Oral History project; Dr. Alison Rose Jefferson, an independent historian, heritage conservation consultant, and third-generation Californian; and Reverend Madelyn Manning from Pasadena Church, who will deliver an inspirational message of faith, hope, and restorative justice.

Because seating is limited at the Alkebu-lan Cultural Center, organizers encourage early attendance to this meaningful celebration of heritage, history, and community.

For more information or to reserve your seat, contact the Alkebu-lan Cultural Center at (626) 794-4647.  Their website is alkebu-lanculturalcenter.com.
