On February 28, the City of Alhambra invites the public to witness its democracy in action as the position of the current Mayor, Katherine Lee, is transferred to Jeffrey Koji Maloney, the current Vice Mayor.

Since 1984, the City of Alhambra has utilized a system in which City Council members are elected from five districts, each for a four-year term. Each member takes a turn at the job of being mayor for a 9-month term. A similar system is in place in San Gabriel, South Pasadena and Sierra Madre.
Katherine Lee, the outgoing mayor, was sworn in as Alhambra’s Mayor on May 24, 2021. She has a strong local background, received a B.A. in economics from UCLA and is an award-winning educator. Maloney, the incoming mayor and current Vice Mayor, received a B.A. from UCSD and a law degree from USC. The new Vice Mayor will be Adele Andrade-Stadler, currently representing District 5.
