Alhambra City Councilwoman Sasha Renée Pérez declared her candidacy to be the next California State Senator from the 25th Senate District.

In a message to her supporters, Councilwoman Pérez shared her commitment to solving our state’s greatest challenges and fighting for San Gabriel Valley and Inland Empire working families.
“As the daughter of an union electrician and social worker, I’ve seen the power of government when it addresses the everyday needs of working families like my own,” stated Councilwoman Perez. “Throughout my career, I have fought for these critical needs — including expanding access to an affordable higher education, increasing opportunities for good paying jobs, and advocating for stable housing. I’m now running for the State Senate to ensure that we have a future where everyone can achieve the Californian dream.”
Councilwoman Pérez was elected to Alhambra City Council in November 2020 and immediately sworn in as Mayor, making her the youngest female Mayor in San Gabriel Valley history and the youngest Latina mayor in California history to lead a city of more than 50,000.
Former Sierra Madre Mayor and Councilmember, John Harabedian, also announced his candidacy for Portantino’s seat earlier this month.
