A mini-festival dubbed TINY HOUSE will take place this coming Sunday, Dec. 10, 2017, in Pasadena.

If you ever wondered what is it like to live large in small footage tiny homes, this is your chance to explore this social movement where people are choosing to downsize the space they live in.
The organizers of this event are aiming to connect individuals and communities that are enthusiastic about Tiny House, ADUs (Accessory Dwelling Units) and other measures that make city life vibrant, diverse and an interesting one.
A whole afternoon of hands-on activities, booths from community partners, and informational presentations will fill the hall at Throop UU Church in Pasadena. There will also be an opportunity to network with active players on the Tiny House movement and Affordable Housing scene while learning about Pasadena’s housing policies.
A tiny house model (laser cut) will be available for participants at the event (Photo – Fourth Level Manufacturing).
Who will be there
There will be Info Booths from the following:
- Tiny House Movement
- Accessory Dwelling Units (ADUs)
- Environmentalism
- Urban Renewal
- Affordable Housing Services and Advocacy
Presentations will include:
- Personal testimonials from people who have owned and lived in tiny houses and accessory dwelling units
- Legal and planning issues to building an ADU
- How to get started on your own Tiny House or ADU project
There will also be Hands-on Activities including creating and decorating your own paper Tiny House (4 inches x 2.5 inches x 1.5 inches) which you can take home for a small fee (you need to register in order to reserve your own laser-cut Tiny House model).
A Tiny House Village? (NEWLY ADDED)
A free, “Living in Community” workshop has just been added.
The most satisfying and the most challenging part of living in an intentional community of any size is how we get along with each other. Like a marriage, communities require good communication, clear and workable agreements, and the willingness to put your personal needs and opinions aside when needed.
Anne Mayor and Denny Karas will share their experience at Columbia Ecovillage and some things to consider when living together. Come ready to ask all your burning questions. www.columbiaecovillage.org
Anne Mavor and Denny Karas live at Columbia EcoVillage (CEV), an inter-generational co-housing community in Portland, Oregon since early 2009 when it began. CEV has 12 children and over 50 adults living in 37 apartments on almost four acres in the city. They share meals, make decisions, care for the property, play, and socialize. It is a continual learning process. Anne and Denny have lived in Portland since 1990 when they moved there from Venice, CA with their infant son. Denny was raised in Pasadena and has also lived in Altadena. Currently a neighborhood activist, he is a retired special ed teacher. Anne is an artist and moved to LA in 1976 from Boston to be part of the feminist art movement. They will living in Altadena this winter for three months.
