If you are planning a small, and safe, family gathering for any occasion you might want to check out the desserts at “The Shredded Carrot, A Sweet Bakery” .

      By Julia McWilliams

Their signature cake is, of course, carrot cake and it is loaded with shredded carrots, walnuts and coconut topped with cream cheese frosting. It is moist and delicious. You can purchase a single piece or an entire, decorated cake.

In addition to cake, The Shredded Carrot has a variety of baked goods including cookies, cupcakes (mini and regular size), muffins, flan, and pies. Chantal’s New York cheesecake is available daily with strawberry, blueberry or blackberry sauce as well as Oreo cookie and other flavors. It is available by the slice, or as a mini or whole cheesecake.

Specially items such as whole pies, decorated cakes, and bread pudding with rum sauce need to be ordered a day or two ahead.

Located at 2428 West Valley Boulevard in Alhambra, just off Fremont Avenue, it is worth the drive.

      > For a complete menu and photos of their sweet treats and beautiful decorated cakes, visit their website at theshreddedcarrot.com.

The identity of our food critic will remain hidden as long as the person is affiliated with ColoradoBoulevard.net. We can only reveal a few details about the person. Her taste is impeccable, she has been around food — quality food — all her life, and she wishes to remain anonymous. Our food aficionado doesn’t announce her status prior to ordering, as this will taint our critic’s unbiased judgment, undermine our reputation, and spell a nightmare for servers draining their time and energy. Our reviews are based solely on the whole experience regardless of the identity of the person being served or the publication they represent. A restaurant staff mustn’t be expected to jump through hoops in exchange for a good review. It’s unethical and isn’t tolerated by our critic or us. The day our critic’s identity is accidentally or intentionally revealed will be the sad day we part ways. In the meantime, her pen name is Julia McWilliams, a nod to her favorite aunt and a famous idol chef.

Award-winning Colorado Boulevard Newspaper is your go-to source for informative news, engaging events, and vibrant community life in the greater Pasadena area. We’re proud to be recognized for excellence in journalism and remain committed to informing, educating, and collaborating to create a better world, both locally and globally.

I can fully endorse this bakery. Carrot cake is my favorite cake so I’ve tried it at many bakeries, restaurants, and home made versions. The one at the Shredded Carrot is AMAZING! I left them a review on Yelp as well but ran across this article and decided to comment. Check them out if you get a chance!
