As part of the California Restaurant Foundation’s (CRF) LA Fire Recovery Grant program, six Altadena and 51 Pasadena restaurants have each received a $10,000 grant.

This initiative, which offers direct aid to small businesses impacted by the wildfires, has provided over half a million dollars in relief to Pasadena’s independent restaurant sector.
The funds are part of a broader $2.4 million effort to support Los Angeles County’s independent restaurants, which have faced significant challenges due to the devastating wildfires this year. The grants are designed to help restaurant owners navigate the financial hardships caused by the disaster while continuing to serve their communities.
“The California Restaurant Foundation has been an incredible advocate for the restaurant industry,” said David Klug, Pasadena’s Economic Development Director. “Our role is to stay closely connected to the needs of our business community and to share resources like this as soon as they’re available. We’re deeply grateful to CRF and partners for stepping up in such a meaningful way for Pasadena restaurants.”
Alycia Harshfield, President of the California Restaurant Foundation, echoed Klug’s sentiments, emphasizing the critical role independent restaurants play in local culture and resilience. “Independent restaurants are more than just places to eat. They reflect the culture, creativity, and resilience of a community. The impact of the LA fires reached deep into Pasadena, and these grants are helping 51 restaurant owners navigate the hardships caused by the disaster while continuing to serve the neighborhoods that rely on them,” said Harshfield.
The City of Pasadena also hosted the Pasadena Restaurant Resilience Pop-Up in April at Café Santorini in Old Pasadena, bringing restaurateurs together for networking and free one-on-one advising. Additionally, the City’s Dine Out Pasadena program, which invested nearly $700,000 in new and refurbished dining patios for 14 restaurants, concluded with a successful Streetfest event in June that drew nearly 3,000 visitors to enjoy local culinary offerings.
With the support of these grants, independent restaurants are well-positioned to recover from the devastating effects of the wildfires and continue thriving in the months ahead.
