The Pasadena Educational Foundation (PEF) started the “Principal for a Day” program in 2006.

      By Scott Phelps

Guests from the community get to follow a Pasadena Unified School District (PUSD) principal around for a morning, followed by a lunch reception.

As of this year’s most recent event, 500 people from the community have now participated. They get to see the district’s schools and classrooms in action, and most come away with a greater understanding and connection to public education in Pasadena. Many become long-term supporters of the schools. They volunteer and advocate for the schools after their experience as Principal for a Day.

“The Principal for a Day program serves as a powerful bridge between the schools and the broader community,” said Patrick Conyers, Executive Director of PEF. “It allows participants to see the important work being done in the classrooms and to understand the value of investing in our schools.”
